L to R: Emily Cotterill, Thirza Clout, Faith Lawrence and Victoria Gatehouse, Waterstones launch, Manchester

The Laureate’s Choice was an annual pamphlet publication project from The Poetry Business.

For this edition, they worked in collaboration with the then Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.

This bound set contains the last four pamphlets selected during her tenure of 2009-2019. We are pictured at the Manchester launch above.

My second publication, Aunts Come Armed with Welsh Cakes, was published by Smith|Doorstop Books.

From the publisher:

My first chapbook, The Bone Seeker, was published by Mark Time UK.

“… a daring poetry that reaches down into the dark, then finds a path back up to the taste of ‘honey made by birds.’ Sometimes ferocious, often dryly and inventively comic, Thirza Clout’s chapbook introduces an assured and distinctive new voice.” Jean Atkin, Poet

My poems have been selected for anthologies including The Everyday Poet: Poems to Live By, edited by Deborah Alma (Michael O’Mara Books, 2016), Wolf Hoard (Border Poets, 2017)and Buttercup Polka (Border Poets, 2019).

In 2016 I won the Doolin Literary Festival Poetry Prize and attended an unforgettable weekend there. I read my winning poem to an audience – including a lovely hen party – who were still appreciative and attentive despite the ceremony being held in the bar late in the evening. That led to publication in Banshee magazine.

Literary Salmon included one of my short stories in their e-collection The Casual Electrocution of Strangers
